What We Did This Summer: Our Fishing Trip on the Columbia River Basin

A&N Plumbing summer trip team on the Columbia River Basin during the morning launch

There is something special about heading out on the Columbia River Basin before the day really wakes up. The cool air, calm water, and quiet morning light make everything feel a little lighter, and you can feel the pace of life slow down the moment the boat pushes away from the dock. That was the scene when Nathan, Jaydze, and Kole headed out for our A&N Plumbing summer trip. It started as a simple way to celebrate reaching one hundred reviews, but it turned into the kind of day that reminds you why time together matters. The laughs, the quiet stretches, and the moments none of us saw coming made this trip one we will be talking about for a long time.

A Morning on the Columbia River Basin

The team headed out early on October fourth, launching around seven in the morning with the river still waking up around them. The air had that cool bite you only get at the start of the day, the kind that clears your head and makes every sound across the water feel sharp and steady. As the boat moved toward Malaga, the Columbia River Basin spread out in front of them, quiet and open, with just enough light coming over the hills to hint at the warm weather that would roll in later.

The easy ride out set a relaxed pace for the day. With the sun rising and the temperature drifting toward seventy, everyone found their spot on the boat and settled in. It was a simple, steady start that made the whole trip feel like a well earned break from the usual routine.

The Big Catches That Defined the Day

The quiet of the morning did not last long. At one point, Jaydze felt a heavy pull on the line, and everything on the boat shifted for a moment. The fish ran deep and steady, and it was clear right away that this was not an ordinary catch. What followed was fifteen to twenty minutes of focused effort and a growing mix of excitement and disbelief as an eight foot sturgeon slowly came into view. When the sturgeon finally surfaced, the whole boat reacted at once. There were shouts, laughs, and that wide eyed look you only get when a fish is even bigger than you expected.

A little later, the mood took a lighter turn when Kole hooked a much smaller sturgeon that came in so fast it felt like the opposite of the earlier battle. The fish was barely two feet long and seemed ready to be caught from the start. It gave everyone a laugh and added an easygoing moment in contrast to the long fight before it.

As the day warmed up, Jaydze landed a bright, twenty three inch jack sized sockeye that added another highlight to the trip. The steady mix of big moments and simple wins made the day feel full, and each catch added its own energy to the experience. It was the kind of rhythm you hope for on a long day on the river.

Moments That Made the Trip Special

There are always little moments that end up shaping a day like this. During our A&N Plumbing summer trip, it was the quiet stretches between bites, the easy conversations that drifted across the boat, and the way everyone relaxed once the rhythm of the river settled in. Being out there together, away from schedules and phone calls, made the whole day feel lighter and more connected.

Some memories will stick simply because of how they felt in the moment. The cheers when the eight foot sturgeon surfaced, the teasing that followed Kole’s quick and easy catch, and the steady back and forth of stories and laughter as the day warmed up. None of it was planned, but that is what made it so good. These are the kinds of moments that often slip past the camera, yet they are the ones that stay with you long after the boat heads back in and the day winds down.

What Days Like This Mean for the Team

Running a plumbing company in North Central Washington means early mornings, long days, and plenty of problem solving, so finding time to slow down together matters more than most people realize. A day on the river offers something different. There are no calls coming in, no schedules to chase, and no pressure to hurry from one place to the next. It gives the team a chance to settle into an easier rhythm, breathe a little deeper, and enjoy the kind of quiet you can only find out on the water.

Spending that time together, away from the usual routine, helps strengthen the connections that keep the team running strong. It is easy to talk about teamwork in the workplace, but it becomes something real when you share stories on a boat, cheer each other on, and laugh about the unexpected parts of the day. Celebrating one hundred reviews in such a simple and genuine way reminded us how important these shared experiences are. They build trust, appreciation, and the kind of camaraderie that shows up when the days get busy again.

We feel grateful to work in a community that values hard work while also understanding the importance of the people behind it. Trips like this help us return to the job with a clearer head and a renewed sense of why we do what we do. Looking Back on a Day Well Spent

There is something satisfying about ending a day on the river knowing you made memories that will stick. This trip was more than a celebration of one hundred reviews. It was a chance to slow down, enjoy the outdoors, and appreciate the people who make A&N Plumbing what it is. The stories, the laughter, and the quiet moments on the Columbia River Basin gave us exactly what we needed before heading back into the busy season. We are grateful for the community that supports us, the team we get to work beside every day, and the milestones that remind us how far we have come together.
